From 9 September 2024, there will no longer be a doctor's fee in England and Wales when arranging a funeral. This is because from this date, all deaths in England and Wales will be independently viewed, either by a relevant coroner or by a Medical Examiner and the cost will be met by the NHS.
A Medical Examiner is a specifically trained independent senior doctor who will scrutinise all deaths across a local area that do not fall under the coroner's jurisdiction. By providing a greater level of scrutiny over the cause of deaths; it is hoped that the introduction of Medical Examiners will make it less likely that unnatural causes of death will go unnoticed; that the number of deaths unnecessarily referred to the coroner will be reduced and that national data about causes of death will be captured with greater accuracy.
Medical Examiners, or Medical Examiner Officers, will also be available to meet with families, or their representatives, if they wish to discuss the cause of death.
As always JH Kenyons were brilliant, respectful and helpful. Debbie was amazing and helpful and supportive ❤️
I don’t know how to even start thanking Deborah and all the other staff for their excellent service in looking after my brother in law Chelsea Ted.
From the first moment the family and I met Deborah we knew Chelsea Ted’s final journey was in the right hands.
Deborah listened to what the family requested and guided us through the process all always stayed in touched.
On the day it was perfect and in thank all the staff for this
Debbie and her team were wonderful. They were very sympathetic and understanding and kind.
Debbie is the best at dealing with such delicate matter. She is so friendly and genuine .
We would like to thank Deborah at the Fulham Branch for the kindness and support given to my mum and I as we arranged my dad's funeral back in March. Whilst being completely professional she was so caring and empathetic at a very difficult and sad time. Her support for my mum was invaluable and for that I will always be grateful. Thank you also to Fabio and his team. He was so supportive on the day of the funeral and made sure everything ran smoothly whilst being kind, caring and respectful. Words cannot express how grateful we are that both Deborah and Fabio were involved in my dad's funeral. It made a very sad time easier and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Melanie Harper
