Frequently asked questions

When someone dies, the first steps will depend on how and where the person passed away. Our step-by-step guides will walk you through the practical steps. For additional support and personal advice, please get in touch with us.

You don't have to make an appointment at our funeral homes. However, doing so will ensure that someone can be available to cater to your needs. When arranging a funeral, our Funeral Directors are happy to visit you in your own home, if required.

Third party funeral costs are additional charges which we will manage for you and attach to your single invoice. Get in touch with us to confirm costs and plan a funeral to fit your budget.

If you choose to arrange the funeral with us, you will be given the option of a complimentary Funeral Notice. We will set it up for you using the details discussed during the arrangements. All we need is an email address.

Dignity Funeral Plans let you pay for your funeral in advance and at today's price. It's a way of taking control of the unexpected, setting out the arrangements and limiting the costs by paying for the services included in the funeral plan upfront.

We are a member of the National Association of Funeral Directors and as such we abide by The Funeral Director Code. We also have a legal obligation to try and ensure the person who is arranging a funeral has the right to do so, or has permission from those who do.

From 9 September 2024, there will no longer be a doctor's fee in England and Wales when arranging a funeral. This is because from this date, all deaths in England and Wales will be independently viewed, either by a relevant coroner or by a Medical Examiner and the cost will be met by the NHS.

A Medical Examiner is a specifically trained independent senior doctor who will scrutinise all deaths across a local area that do not fall under the coroner's jurisdiction. By providing a greater level of scrutiny over the cause of deaths; it is hoped that the introduction of Medical Examiners will make it less likely that unnatural causes of death will go unnoticed; that the number of deaths unnecessarily referred to the coroner will be reduced and that national data about causes of death will be captured with greater accuracy.

Medical Examiners, or Medical Examiner Officers, will also be available to meet with families, or their representatives, if they wish to discuss the cause of death.

Thank you for taking the time to send your online review to us. I am pleased that the arrangements for your mum were carried out to your satisfaction.

I have nothing but praise for the way, in which, Kenyon’s handled my recently deceased Aunt’s funeral. Matters were helped from the outset as my Aunt had a pre-paid plan in existence. The staff at the Rochester Road branch, London, gave outstanding advice back in 2019, which facilitated matters when the death occurred.

Antonio and his colleagues showed incredible empathy and consideration in all our dealings. Communication , both via email and the telephone was always prompt and informative. Professional and trustworthy are words, which come to mind, when describing Antonio.

Prior to the day, the head funeral attendant, Fabio, contacted me to introduce himself and run through the running order of the actual day. Like Antonio, Fabio was outstanding in his helpfulness and customer service.

Even after the day of the funeral, my family and I were contacted to see if we were satisfied with the events of the day and to find out how we were feeling and coping.

I have no hesitation in recommending Kenyon’s and, in particular, Antonio and Fabio at the Rochester road branch. Thank you.

Thank you so much for leaving a review online for J H Kenyon Funeral Directors. It's so good to hear that the pre-paid funeral plan made it easier to arrange the service for your Aunt and that the team carried out the service to your satisfaction.

So incredibly supportive, they made arranging my father's funeral so much easier and less traumatic for my family, particularly my mother. They went above and beyond what was required and were kind and respectful of our wishes. Their guidance was compassionate with complete understanding during the worst period of our lives. They came highly recommended and lived up to that recommendation. Thank you Antonio!

Thank you so much for this lovely review which means all the more at this very challenging time. The team are working very hard to ensure that each family receives outstanding care and I am so glad their dedication has given you the service you needed.

Coping with the death of a loved one is difficult at any time. What you need is the support of professionals. Antonio and his team (including Fabio) were outstanding. They ensured that we were supported in the many decisions that need to be made, and ensured that we achieved a memorable send-off for my aunt.

Antonio especially was fantastic at respectfully helping us to understand the process required and ensuring that we had a day, though very emotional and difficult, was exactly what we wanted. Many thanks. George and the rest of our family.
