From 9 September 2024, there will no longer be a doctor's fee in England and Wales when arranging a funeral. This is because from this date, all deaths in England and Wales will be independently viewed, either by a relevant coroner or by a Medical Examiner and the cost will be met by the NHS.
A Medical Examiner is a specifically trained independent senior doctor who will scrutinise all deaths across a local area that do not fall under the coroner's jurisdiction. By providing a greater level of scrutiny over the cause of deaths; it is hoped that the introduction of Medical Examiners will make it less likely that unnatural causes of death will go unnoticed; that the number of deaths unnecessarily referred to the coroner will be reduced and that national data about causes of death will be captured with greater accuracy.
Medical Examiners, or Medical Examiner Officers, will also be available to meet with families, or their representatives, if they wish to discuss the cause of death.
I was very pleased to have used J H Kenyon in Kensington who were involved with my colleague's funeral. Nabeela not only took care of funeral arrangements but also was very supportive and caring from start to finish including the order of service booklets which were of high quality and a lovely memento for people to take with them.
On the day , the service was perfect , the flowers were exquisite and music well timed and moving. Nabeela organised on the last minute request , Mr Phil Walder to conduct the service which was a real asset. I cannot praise Nabeela and the team enough and i recommend her to anyone with a funeral to arrange.
Thank you Nabeela and the team.

Angela Ransome and family
We are delighted to have used J H Kenyon for our funeral director. Nabeela could not have been more polite, professional and helpful at any moment. It's such a difficult time, so feeling that you are in the hands of someone who can hold you in your grief and make sure that every detail is thought about and handled with care is so important. Highly recommended - I will be using again should I need to.
Death is always sad and can be stressful. J H Kenyon Funeral Directors Team (in particular : Nabela) looked after our needs and funeral arrangements. Very professional, accommodating and very quick on everything. No Stress and sinced we had a double funeral it could have been more sadder and stressful, but all that were not present because of the help and support that the Staffs had given us.
My husband had stated categorically that he did not want any kind of ceremony for his death. Given his family and enormous number of friends, that was just not on. Nabeela and the team at Kenyon of Kensington put together a ceremony at the West London crematorium which was simple but very elegant. Not a detail was missing and everything went so smoothly, it was a HUGE relief. They also organised the marvellous Mr Phil Walder to conduct the ceremony and he was a real asset to the entire family, as well as being a very nice man. I cannot praise the entire team enough. They made what could have been a traumatic day into a true celebration of my late husband's life. Hats off to everybody at JH Kenyon, Kensington.
